Domains, DNS and mail

Register domains, host DNS zones and run e-mail – on our own infrastructure and self-managed through our customer portal and our API.

DNS hosting

We host your DNS zones on our authoritative name servers ns.opteamax.de, ns.opteamax.eu and ns.opteamax.info. The three name servers sit in three different networks (ASNs): if one network fails, the others continue to answer queries for your domains.

You maintain your zones in the customer portal or via the API:

  • records of type A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA, NAPTR, SSHFP, TLSA and PTR,
  • reverse zones for the IP addresses we have assigned to you,
  • every change increments the zone’s serial number automatically and is distributed to all name servers immediately.

Domain registration

You can register domains with us on fair terms – in the customer portal or via our API. In the portal you can check several domains at once and order them together. There you also manage:

  • the name servers of your domains,
  • the contact details (owner, admin, tech and zone),
  • cancellation and reactivation.

On request, domains you register with us are placed directly in our DNS hosting.

Mail hosting

You can run your e-mail on our mail server infrastructure. In the customer portal or via the API you maintain yourself:

  • mailboxes, aliases, forwards and vacation messages,
  • mailing lists with Mailman – as a discussion list or as an announcement list on which only moderators post directly; you manage members and moderation in the Mailman interface and download the archive as an mbox file.

You read and write your mail with any mail client or in the browser via our webmail at webmail.opteamax.de.

The domain does not have to be registered with us: it is enough for its MX record to point to our mail servers. Mail clients such as Thunderbird, Outlook and Apple Mail find the servers and encryption settings themselves as soon as you enter your address and password.

Frequently asked questions

Can I manage my domains and zones via an API?

Yes. DNS zones and records, mail domains, mailboxes and mailing lists, as well as the contact details of your domains, can be controlled via our REST API. You generate the credentials for it in the customer portal.

Do I have to book domain, DNS and mail together with you?

No. You can use each of the three services on its own – for example only mail hosting for a domain registered with another provider.

Where is my data stored?

We operate our name servers and mail servers ourselves. Your contractual partner is Opteamax Infrastructure GmbH, based in Rheinbreitbach.
